The club is
currently working towards achieving Tennis Clubmark
Accreditation. It is important for us to gain Clubmark
accreditation as without it we cannot get funding from the
Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) for new facilities or
activities.
What is Tennis Clubmark?
“Tennis
Clubmark is the LTA’s club accreditation programme.
Achieving Tennis Clubmark means the LTA endorses and
supports the tennis programmes your club delivers on court,
and the policies and procedures you have in place off
court..” introduction to Tennis Clubmark 2008
What does it mean for our Coaching Programmes?
We have been
running our existing coaching format for about a year now
and we are reviewing it in line with the Clubmark framework.
The
framework requires that we have a coaching programme which
are year round, for players of all ages and abilities and
inclusive for all members of the community. We must also
have a process for attracting, identifying and developing
talented players with in the programme.
We run two types of coaching programmes:
1.
Programmes open to all ages/abilities for members and non
members. These programmes are totally inclusive and are a
way of attracting people to play tennis and developing their
skills and fitness they are also a way of identifying
talented players.
2.
Programmes open to members only and by selection. These
programmes are how we will develop talented players in line
with the LTA’s national strategy and identify those who a
good enough to play for the club in our junior teams and to
be put forward for further development at county level.
Nick Rose
our Performance coach will be responsible for selecting
juniors for these programmes and for deciding which group is
appropriate based firstly on ability and then age.
Commitment and attitude is as important as ability in these
groups and places will be withdrawn if individuals are not
showing enough commitment or the appropriate attitude.
